Last night me and Tim were walking down a road on the sea front of La Paz when we walked passed a woman and a man sitting on the bench. Clearly things arent good with the man and the woman is pretty histerical and clearly has no clue what to do. At this point I felt that it would have be unfair and maybe irrisponsible to leave the woman that no one was helping as her husband had clearly just had something along the lines of a heart attack (or something serious anyhow) In hindsight I am also very glad I took the medical course that I did before I left otherwise it would have been a pretty awful situation to be in not having any idea of what to do.
I did all the stuff I think I had been taught to do, but in that situation that I have not been in before it was all pretty hectic. To cut down what seemed like a rather long time, I gave the man CPR for a fair few minutes before anyone else bothered to help, and after a while several others bowled in offering help so in a fairly disturbed state I let them take over, and decided I had tried my best and not to hang around any longer.
All I know is that things really didnt look good. I later found out the man died, and in fact was proberbly pretty dead when I was trying in vain to give him CPR.
Anyway, that was my saturday night. All very odd, and although I sure it doesnt sound that bad, for someone not expecting it and for some one who has never experienced something like that it was all a bit odd. I can honestly say Im glad I had been trained to some extent to at least try and help, and Im glad I did try and help rather than walk by even if the ending was a rather sad one. But there we go, I suppose thats the way things go, so I thought I should add this to my journal as it is certainly a fairly significant event during my trip.
Hopefully the next entry will be one of a slightly more amusing nature, oh and I tried to load up some photos for the earlier post but the computer just electrecuted me! I think Ill try on another machine!
